This meeting highlighted issues in the NRC reports, Successful K-12 STEM Education and Monitoring Progress Toward Successful K-12 STEM Education, with a special focus on incorporating engineering into K-12 education, as described in the Next Generation Science Standards. It included breakout sessions on National Science Foundation funded projects, resources, and initiatives that align with the reports' evidence base on effective instruction, access to high quality STEM for all students, and building supportive infrastructure. Participation by teams was encouraged.
The STEM Smart workshop was planned in conversation with the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Read more about the 10th Annual ASEE Workshop on K-12 Engineering Education, held on June 22, 2013 at the Georgia World Congress Center. View the ASEE K-12 Workshop's informational flyer.
